about

Moonshine Queen is a dark, swirling mix of post-punky industrial music, inspired by Bowie's Berlin era, Depeche Mode, and modern dark wave groups like Boy Harsher. The lyrics narrate the first-person story of someone's mental deterioration, either from an unhealthy relationship or from alcohol abuse.

lyrics

I spent years along the sidelines
With a cynical gaze
Sniffing out trends as they came and went
But always scared to participate

Dancing on your bed with the moonshine queen
She’s easy to love but she’s hard to leave

I wouldn’t join in with the crowd
And my silence would indicate
Disenchantment with those around
But it was just fear I’d be too late

Dancing at home with the moonshine queen
It started out pure but it ends obscene
Dancing all alone with the moonshine queen
She’ll answer your thoughts and question your dreams

A soldier to her revolution
I cut a thousand ties
And I bought her cheap illusion
That alienated my allies
My confusion was ignored, insecurities restored
By my healer and my guide
I just drank from a well of pollution
At least I had her by my side

Dancing in your head with the moonshine queen
You think it’s all good but it ain’t what it seems
Dancing in the cold with the moonshine queen
You try and waltz away but you’ll never be free

Enough was enough, it was getting tough
To keep a foot still on the ground
So I took off my clothes, jumped in the lake,
And I thought I almost drowned
But I came up for air to a sea of stares
From friends I couldn’t recognize
Maybe from the water, maybe from my hair
That was plastered to my eyes
Or maybe I’d danced too long
They thought I was trying to say goodbye

Falling in love with the moonshine queen
You’ll divorce from your life to marry her schemes
Falling apart with the moonshine queen
Since she can’t be wrong, you’ll have to take the heat

So I took off and screamed, tried to make amends
But people move on so fast
And playing catch-up with a thousand friends
Made me miss what was in my past
Now I’m making the rounds and mending bridges
At least the ones that I can find
I guess at this point I should be glad that I survived
I guess at this point I should be glad that I survived

Cutting things off with the moonshine queen
Remember who you were and who you want to be
