Take a scroll down memory lane Try and remember the details that were out the frame All the names you forgot about Belong to faces that mean so much more now At the time, it was hard to see how fleeting it would be But seeing when you’re older’s always harder Those memories on Gardner The disco ball of cop car lights When you played too loud, they shut down the night Sparks in the dark with songs you’d write Thick as thieves with sticky weed, heed your own advice And notice different people you haven’t before Cuz hindsight pulls you out and makes them larger Those memories on Gardner Was there a way to save the scene from burning out At the top, you ain't got nowhere left to climb You did what you could, and I guess it's good, it’s a fossil now You can dig up from time to time Now you sit alone at home Replaying moments on your phone so you know Where to go and where you’ve been In case you’re treading the same ground again And if they’re miles away today and time’s a one-way street, You know tomorrow they’ll be a little farther Those memories on Gardner

Marigold rain You shine all summer long like a candle flame You catch sunrays in your petals And you watch it all in bloom Marigold rain To us it’s beauty, to you it’s just a game Swarms of fruit flies on your lips And you’re smiling all through June But lately I’ve seen sadness in your eyes And I don’t know if I’ll look the same When the winter’s rolling by Y’know its getting harder To read between the lines Marigold rain Behind those kisses there’s an avalanche of pain When the earth turns facing the night And you’re soaking up the moon

about

Memories On Gardner is the latest single in a series of a-sides and b-sides I've been putting out (roughly) once a month since November of 2022. This song is another really personal one to me, and is about the DIY spaces my old band, The Cotones, used to play at when we lived in Boston together. One of our favorites was a house called The Garden of Allston, located on Gardner Street, and this song tries to capture the spirit of those days while looking in the rearview mirror. The b-side, Marigold Rain, is a short, poppy AABA song, with just a few guitar tracks and voice.
